Raduga and Progress: The Translated Books That Lived in Our Homes

5 October 2026
On the colourful books from Moscow, and why collectors seek them today.

Many of us remember colourful books with beautiful illustrations bearing the names Progress Publishers or Raduga, Moscow.

These presses brought Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Chekhov, Gorky and Pushkin to Arabic readers, along with illustrated children's stories that shaped a whole generation.

Today their editions are sought after for nostalgia and for their literary and artistic value. Nora Inkwell gives them a whole door of their own: Raduga, Progress & Sister Presses.
